    Default Multiroom card sharing question

    Hi everyone,

I've been rewiring my house with Cat6 and Satellite connections in every room, so that I can potentially put a receiver wherever I want.

There are 10 rooms, and I've put 2 connections in each room (so there can potentially be a twin-tuner in each room). I'm new to all the satellite stuff but I've been reading around and I've decided to have two dishes - a fixed one for Sky UK, and a motorised one for other satellites. Therefore I have decided to go for the 9x24 multiswitch route.

I understand that I will have problems contolling the 2nd dish's motor through the multiswitch so I have decided to either use a standalone positioner, or connect the multiswitch output to my main receiver via the motor.

That's the basic setup, but I have a question regarding cardsharing... If I put my Sky card in my main receiver, I understand I can set up my main receiver as a server and the other receivers can share the card details by connecting to my main receiver. That's simple enough. I just wondered:

    1) Is there a limit to the number of receivers that can share my Sky card?

    2) If I were to share somebody else's card (over the internet), can I use the server details on all of my receivers?

they would need to give you lines for each receiver or reshare rights on the lines.

best to get individual lines as the more 'hops' you go through the quality will suffer somewhat

    wouldn't go over 3 hops.

    Thanks alom.

My network is set up as follows:

    Internet --> Modem --> Router --> Switch --> Devices

I guess that means I'll have at least 3 hops to my main receiver anyway, and if I can get individual lines, it would be the same number of hops on the other receivers.

If I can get permission to reshare, the other receivers will be on at least 5 hops (?) as they will have to go through the switch to get to my main receiver, which is at least 3 hops away from the source.

Am I thinking along the correct lines?

    Badapple, sorry.

The CS tallk relates to the motorised dish for football on other satellites. I won't be using it to get sky on the cheap!

Unfortunately as Mr Apple has stated we do not allow CS discussions on the forum, but will gladly answer any other queries you may have.

CS in general has plenty of sites dedicated to such and you will find them quite easily.

I will close this thread, (and deleted aloms last CS post), and you can start another if you like without the CS part.

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams
