Default ELM327 CHINA CLONE OBD FIRMWARE VERSION

    HI
i have a chinese obd interface elm327 its one of the small oblong plastic ones that plugs straight into obd socket and then usb to laptop.
its dated 2009.09.10 with elm327a.1 10pb087a on the back of the pcb
    some questions
1 is there a way to find out what version of firmware it has on it ie software to read?
2 is firmware updatable if its older version
3 im guessing the mod to make work at higher baud rate is still the same just slightly different layout as oblong board. (i need to follow board circuit through when i find my big magnifier )

Look m8 what you have to do. Go to their website :

Elm Electronics Products - OBD ICs

You `ll find there all the answers you are looking for.
It is a very simple way to find all the info about ELM327 using Windoz utility HiperTerminal, and by sending some simple AT commands you will find those info. Look closely to the datasheets posted on that website, ELM327 datasheet, AT commands etc.
I used that circuit some years ago so i know what i`m talking about.
So i repeat, all you want to know you can find studing those documents on the website, firmware, schematics, what ELM327 can and can not do, all, all, all...

The ELM327 v1.3a is still available!
Version 1.3a of the ELM327 is still available for purchase, at a lower price. This IC was great value for the money before, and now offers incredible value. It has more features than most people can use, so you will not go wrong if you pass over the v1.4b and buy this one instead.
The main difference between the v1.3a and v1.4b chips is that the v1.4b offers the ability to go to a low power 'sleep' type mode. This is great for applications where it is preferred to keep the ELM327 connected to the vehicle (fleet applications, etc.). If you only want to occasionally connect to a vehicle to read trouble codes and maybe a little data, then seriously consider this v1.3a version.

    ELM327P v1.3a (PDIP): $19.00 ELM327SM v1.3a (SOIC): $19.00

Please note that the above price is for any quantity - we do not offer any discounts on the ELM327 v1.3a with quantity.
