    Default Defect EDC16U34 ecu?

    Hi all,

I have a VW passat EDC16U34 ecu (ABT tuned), which does not work anymore (car does not start and no communications can be made with the ecu). When I connect it to my bdm programmer I can read the contenets of the flash and eeprom without any problem and the content of the flash is fine, so the important chips must be fine and logic voltage supply is present. Any ideas what could be defect?

    Hello
Tuned ABT ecu must be restored from ABT with original CSW BDM. They exchange public RSA key in memory area which most other BDM tools do not read/write.
Restore the BDM backup of the ABT file without touching the file and the car will run again. Then have it fixed by ABT dealer.

The software has not been changed. The car just stopped running and no diagnosis to the ecu was possible.
The dealer say thay cannot help and advises to buy a new ecu and tune the ecu again by ABT (total costs > 1500 Euro!) The car was tuned a few years ago and there is no warranty on the tuning anymore. If I can somehow restore the ecu to original it would already be fine, but because of the different RSA key programming ori software will probably not work. If there was a problem with the RSA key or checksum I would expect still to be able to diagnose the ecu and get a fault about the eeprom or checksum.

    Hello
When it happened at the dealer I think the dealer tried to update the ecu with VAS Tool. The result is what you have now. I see this every day. Often the dealer/mechanic is not honest and avoid to tell the complete story.
Anyways, if the ecu is really dead you normally can still read the eeprom + (probably corrupt) flash with any bdm tool. U34 has no processor content. Post all here and we will fix it. Try to find a similar ecu from fleebay, insert your bdmbackup and off you go.

    This is the bdm read.
I will also ask again if they really did not try to update the ecu.

Please find attached the eeprom read.
If you do not have the option in winols, you could use the export option of a bdm tool to extract the flash and eeprom from the full bdm read.

    Hello
Winols 2.19 cannot import/export file format of clone CMD BDM. And on my BDM the sticker says EVC BDM100 ;-).

Your eeprom is fine. And the car has NOT been updated by dealer, so i really think it is dead.
But now you have everything to put data on another used ecu from fleabay.

I have bought another ecu and flashed over the ori ABT files, but now this ecu also does not work!
With the ori files it works fine, so the problem is not in the hardware!!!

    Hello
You cannot use the ABT file as it is. Use the original file and make your own tuning from there.
