Hello DK,

I don't know the fuel specs off hand but I'd start by looking for a fuel line that might be leaking/ sucking air
If you intend to use this information to impress your friends, leave it
and grow up!
The series 60 will start with very minimal fuel pressure. Usually as soon as you see something on the gauge they will start. They will idle with 10psi. Best to try running the pump straight out of a drum of diesel. Also run return into a bucket and check for air bubbles. I had one today that took about 10 seconds to start which turned out to be a leaking injector but you will know this as the oil level goes up.

Is it a ddec 4 or 5.The ddec 5 will crank with almost no pressure.N3 injectors.Ddec 4 will crank with about 5 psi.
There is a check valve in the fuel return line out of the rear of the cylinder head, the upper port is the return. Sometimes the valve is at the head, sometimes it is about 12-18" down the line. If it fails, you will lose fuel prime and you will have long cranking times. Remove the check valve and try to blow air in both directions. Sometimes, fuel injectors will leak externally, from either the body o-rings or from the solenoids. Check your engine oil level and condition. High level and clean oil might indicate fuel leakage. You can, with the right tools and ingenuity, remove the rocker cover, pressurize the fuel system, and watch fuel leak from the injectors. Good luck!
Don't forget, the 90 degree fitting in the return port is a restrictive fitting, it is drilled as an orifice to create the required fuel pressure. Removing or altering the fitting can and will result in low fuel pressure and poor running. Unless you know what you're doing........
I have a no start probelm with a Detroit 60 series engine mounted in a Freightliner.
It is throwing fault code 42 too few SRS (missing SRS), replaced SRS sensor, Checked wiring to sensor, checked power supply and ignition power. Everything OK but engine refueses to start, however it runs on starting fluid. When barring the engine it seems kind of free, little effort is required.
What else should I check. Engine cranking at 175-185 rpm, batteries new and all grounds good.
Thanks
