Default Audi A4 TCM Recoding, is it possible to do?

2003 Audi A4 with dead CVT TCM in transmission. Has anyone tried installing a secondhand used TCM (the one inside the CVT Transmission) and recoding it? I cant get it to recode with VCDS, its always rejected. Does anyone know how to do this and if a Login Code is required? I see researching on the net that the Login should be 01283? I have tried everything to recode this TCM, I am beginning to wonder if the only soultion around this problem is to virginise the Engine ECU? Any ideas or experience with this would be greatful please guys

Haven?t tried it yet. Allways repaired the cars original one.

I got VAG K+ CAN commander on monday, but don?t know if it can recode the tcm.

    This is a tricky one...

    Hi.

You don't need to program used TCM in your case, if this ECU have a identical serial numbers (and identical software, of course) with original. Pin is not required never. You should do only adaptation, like jp_olli says (see attached pdf) with VAG-COM. Only on cars with 01J TCU after 2005 you need to do online coding via VAS 50xx , because this cars have a immo gen4 and component protection (6 bytes stored in TCU).

2 jp_olli: Vag k+can commander can`t rewrite SW in multitronic. I have tried..

The secondhand one was supplied to me by part number and when it arrived it was the same except the last two letters on the end, but i trust that the supplier knew this wouldnt make a difference as thats why they sold it to me I hope?

    The original TCM = 01J 927 156 HH
    8E0 910 155 K
    Soft: 0000001
    Workshop: 00102
    Import: 771
    Equip: 08513

    The new used TCM = 01J 927 156 HT
    8E0 910 155 K
    Soft: 0000001
    Workshop: 88776
    Import: 111
    Equip: 63210

I have tried everything to do the Clutch Adaptations with my VAG.com tool Original but it never works. It just says "ADP Run" all the time and will never change to "ADP Ok". It doesnt matter if you do it 5 times or even 30 times, it will never change. What to do next? Need help as urgent as possible, many thanks for everyones help so far

What do you mean change eeporm? I mean change it to what? As for the flash, yes i could update that if I had an update, would you have an update for it?

@ gtmech: Dont waste your time trying to do adaption with vcds it is not going work end of story. I repair these multitronic tcm units for a living and can tell you the following. You have to match the software in the tcm with the that of the vehicle ecu. You need to just use your vcds to read the software coding number. Write that coding down then get yourself VAS v19 and the vas software flashing dics and flash the tcm with new software.

I have the chart explaining how to choose which flash soft number to use but will have to look for it over this weekend.

I usually only flash the same tcm which came out the transmission after doing the 6 to 7 clutch upgrade. I have never had to fit a second hand tcm. Usually I repair the original tcm. Tell what was the actual problem with the original tcm? What fault codes did it come up with? I can lead you through the steps to repair it.

That's correct , only need to change soft coding , but with vas u can code manually , but the men don't have the vas , so the best solution ius change the flash+eeprom and no need coding.

@spawns3 that is not the correct information you are giving because you are talking about changing flash and eeprom in ecu. It will not help to change anything in the ecu, (the ecu is for engine). The TCM is for transmission and sits inside the transmission. You have to flash new software update into TCM and not into ecu. You can not do it manually and you must do it with VAS. Here is a youtube link.
