Default Dreambox edit channel numbers help needed

iv connected a dm-500c clone (openmedia) to dreambox edit and im trying to change the channel numbers to ones like the virgin cable boxes for someone but when i send the edited ones back to the dreambox and reload them, the channel numbers arnt the same as the ones iv changed them to.

also they just stay in alphabetical order rather than the channel number order.

iv been trying different things for hrs and still cant get it to work.

for example if i change bbc1 to ch no. 101 save, ftp back and reload it will come up as a different number and be in alphebtical order still.

has any one got any ideas to get them in a list of channels in number order like the list on virgin cable boxes or has anyone done it and got the files i can upload.

    im on dk 1.1 btw

    thanks

You would need to insert a lot blank channels to get them the same as VM. You are better off making little bouquets or favourites.

I do not think it is possible to do what you are trying to do with your dreambox.

    Wink Changing Channel Numbers

I did do this some time ago because I wanted to use my DM500c with Tivo. Tivo (hard disk recorder with MPEG encoder as well as decoder built in) allows recording from ANY video source eg Dreambox as well as Sky or Freeview.

To function the channel numbers need to be remapped back to Virgin's numbering system since Tivo changes Dreambox channels for recordings using VM's numbering.

The post above was correct in surmising that you need to add lots of dummy channels. I did upload the edited files a couple of years ago elsewhere. Sadly they are different for different Virmin service areas and have been modified quite extensively now.

The gist of the solution is:
-Firstly download a copy of DreamBoxEdit (DBE)
-Use DBE to fetch the bouquets and services files from DM500.
Save a copy of these files (on PC for insurance)
-Edit each channel to have the number you want eg BBC1 = 101
(I know this is tedious but only needs to be done once....plus odd minor updates). Any channels you don't want can be edited to a new (high) channel number starting at say Ch 1200
-I chose to make channels 1-100 favourites (Bouquets)
-Make a new DUMMY channel and duplicate it to fill in ALL the unused channel numbers.
-SAVE these modified Services & bouquet files (on your PC).
-I made up an empty (blank) bouquet file to overwrite the existing bouquet file on the Dreambox....Write to Dreambox using DBE. Reboot dreambox.
-Write modifed bouquet and services files to Dreambox using DBE.
    -Reboot dreambox

There is a setting on Dreambox menu that needs to be changed. It is something like "disable channel updates" that I would recommend you use until you are happy your "system" works. If you update channels, dreambox will automatically use any unused channel numbers. If you have properly filled up all the channel numbers, the new channels will be assigned the highest channel numbers....and NOT affect your channel numbering.
If you miss some of the dummy channels, the new channels will fill the gaps and some of your original channels will be renumbered incorrectly.

Always save your modified files on PC!

The above is a) VERY timeconsuming and b) tedious but if you really want the channels remapped....this works.

    Good Luck!!

    Default On the other hand....

More directly to your question, I think Curious is correct in saying that you can't change the channel display order (on dreambox). My solution above makes the channel numbers display correctly on/for TIVO.

    Cheers,
