Question Anyone Know How To Download Embedded Videos From Sites that Require a Login?

    Hey fellow DKers,

So I've paid a lot of money for an online school that teaches via videos. Instead of losing access to the videos after my enrollment is finished, I'd like to be able to download them to refer back to them later on if I forget something or want to review how to do something.

Obviously, the school's site equires a login and password. I've tried using some extensions in Firefox and Chrome to download the embedded videos but none of them seem to be able to detect the actual video.

I've attached the source code of a sample page with a single video embedded in it.

It seems to be a flash video hosted through viddler possibly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

i have used this program VideoCacheView v2.45 nirsoft
    Description
After watching a video in a Web site, you may want to save the video file into your local disk for playing it offline in the future. If the video file is stored in your browser's cache, this utility can help you to extract the video file from the cache and save it for watching it in the future.
It automatically scans the entire cache of Internet Explorer, Mozilla-based Web browsers (Including Firefox), Opera, and Chrome, and then finds all video files that are currently stored in it. It allows you to easily copy the cached video files into another folder for playing/watching them in the future. If you have a movie player that is configured to play flv files, it also allows you to play the video directly from your browser's cache.

its free, i had to use internet explorer, to get it to work but i have had loads of success with it for sites you cant grab them from, its a standalone version, some files it wont catch, but like i say i had a good results with it, sure someone will know one better hopefully but you can give it a shot. hope this make sense cos i am firking crap at explain stuff, but like i always say the man who knows everything, never learn nothing, good look

Awesome, thanks! I'm about to try it out in a bit here. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok, so I tried out that program. Seems to load up videos I've viewed on Youtube and other public sites but it doesn't seem to be storing the videos in my cache for my online course.

I really hate to have to do this but as a last resort I could record my screen to keep the videos but that would take a looooot of time sitting there waiting for them to record one by one.

Anyone else with a possible solution? Thanks!

If you can't find a program to record embedded video ... look at a screen capture program like camtasia studio ... you can just record whats playing on your screen ... audio recording issues are normally solved by plugging a audio jack from your headphone socket to your microphone socket

Opps ... just re-read your last post

Hehe it's ok. Yeah I'm trying to avoid having to do that because of how much time it's going to take to record everything one by one.

It's my last resort but I appreciate the help

I want to say... there has to be someone that might know a way to use some scripting if there aren't any programs that can leech the video files correctly.

I'll try that. You might have been able to download them successfully since they were public. I have to login to my account and it gives me access to stream the videos I want to keep but I bet they're protected. I'll try the software you used and report back in a bit.

BINGO! Well done, Sir! This method works! The software has a built-in browser which is probably why it works compared to the others!

I was able to download the raw .FLV files. Amazing!

    Thanks a bunch Jaws!

I have used firefox extension that saves videos from sites like youtube, etc., on one such page without any problems.

    Video DownloadHelper :: Firefox Add-ons

Yeah I think I might have tried that and didn't work for sites requiring an account to view videos.

    Jaws' software suggestion works perfectly!

Now you have the flv files you can put them on a DVD for safekeeping and playback on the big screen. DVD flick is free from dvdflick.com and works perfectly with flv files.
