Interested in your outcome. The only car I couldn't do with ak90 was a 1996 E36 318. AK90 just wouldnt read it, gave up in the end. Guy got a key through BMW. Never erased memory, always says "takes 2min to safely decode"

problem solved. xprog works perfect with adapter. i guess some of the pins did not make good contact when fully inserted into adapter. lifted mcu a bit and it read. special thanx to all members who have helped .

Just bought 2 AK90's and I have 3 MCU's and none of them read. Get and error message that says, "pin no touch". I think it's a bad batch of connectors.

I'm having the same program trying to read EWS2 using xprog. First I lift the pin of only 1 ELMOS chip next to capacitor and changed Oscillator to 5529600. No work. remove both ELMOS chip, no work. Remove the HC711 and used the adapter, no work.

I keep getting Vcc overload error. Probably the chip needs more cleaning and double check all contacts?
What do experienced tech use to clean lacquer? Alcohol works but very slow.

    After this I'm getting AK90+. Hopefully I didn't damage the HC711

sand off top of the QFP connector - enough so makes better contact. the 1st i bought had problem.

    interesting thread guys. i will say i couldn't do a Rover 75 with AK90 so has bugs/ommisions

I turned out the original EWS2 was damaged beyond all repair. Bought a junkyard ews2 and rebuilt the security and all working great.

sandpaper is the quickest way to clean the contacts as OBDsystems suggested. although not elegant. Keep in mind if you have metal debris on a circuit board you could have a short somewhere.

Safest method is probably chemical cleaner. I don't have experience with that and will try/research autocargo's suggestion.

For cleaning the EWS pins or any circuit board / contact points get yourself a fiber pen (it's almost like a piece of fiber optic cable). Works like a dream.
