Default BlackBerry Torch 9810 unlocked then relocked.

The mate had the above phone on Virgin contract and finished the contract not long ago. He then left the phone into a shop to have it unlocked.

    IMEI = 357696040415576

All went well when he got it back, untill he did a factory reset/data wipe. He told me it was back to being locked on virgin only, but when I got it of him to have a look at it, I tried a regged Virgin sim in it and it said upon boot up "Your Current SIM card requires an unlock code. Would you like to unlock?" And when I press YES or NO the phone displays Invalid SIM Card with emergency calls only.

When I press options, Device, advanced system settings, and go to SIM theres no info there untill I press and hold SHIFT and type M E P D, a popup menu shows the following.

    -------------------------------------------------

SIM Card: No Vaild SIM Card

    Identity and associations

    Personalisation:

    SIM Disabled

    Network Blocked

    Network Subset Disabled

    Service Provider Disabled

    Corporate Disabled

    -----------------------------------------------------

The phone is behaving like its stolen, which I know its not. The emergency calls out are not blocked. He mentioned putting in THE MEP number and when I quizzed him on it he said his son may have entered it in wrong or correct 10 + times.

Are there any other commands I can try so as to change or edit the above menu which only comes after pressing shift and M E P D?

The phone searches for mobile networks but never finds a Virgin network. If I put an o2 SIM in it finds o2 but when I select that Network it times out when connecting to it.

Would a diagnostics test log be helpfull?

Sounds like it has a fault rather than blacklisted... You usually get MM6 error on blacklisted handsets.

It might be worth trying to flash it with BlackBerry Desktop Manager as they do suffer from odd software problems...

But you could find that the phone is still locked, especially if someone did use all 10 attempts at the MEP code.

I'd like to know how the shop unlocked the phone. I've never heard of a phone rejecting the MEP code after it's been accepted & removed the SIM lock.

What do you think is causing this erootr?

How can I downgrade it to OS 6.x series as I think that would solve the simlock error and there was no enterprise reg . Im pretty sure thats what OS he had on it at the time he did a reset and update.

I need a download link other than blackberry site as the BB ID cannot reg due to no network from no sim allowed and Im not staying in a WIfi enabled house at this time.

Download Blackberry Desktop Manager onto your PC/laptop, plug the phone into the computer & click the software update tab.

If BDM can't find any new software it will offer previous versions to install.

Im working on it now at the minute. Ill keep the forums posted as this doesnt seem as easy as I first thought it would be.

I know the MEP code but I cant find anywhere to re-renter it to verify the mates more than 10 times password unlock entry.

If you put a different network SIM card into the phone, if it's locked it will ask you if you want unlock it. The entry box for the MEP code will state how many attempts remain, zero attempts will mean your only chance will be to send it away.

If it doesn't ask if you want to unlock the phone it could just be a software fault, like Jim said.
