Default BMW E46 cluster replacement(mileage correction

    Hello to all

The gauges on the cluster of my E46 328ci have gone bad and i need to replace the cluster. I have been doing some reading and do not have a ckear idea of how i can restore the car's original mileage onto the donor cluster

Is it functional to desolder the data chip that stores the vin and mileage data that is on the bad cluster and resolder it onto the donor cluster? Or can i solder a blank chip and once i save the data of the defective cluster with progman then i install the donor cluster with the blank chip and run Progman to code? Or do i need a programmer to correct the mileage on the donor cluster? In this case i eould also have to align the EWS right?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Regards
    Mark

Pa soft bmw scanner would be my choice of tool to do 1 of these old motometer clusters.

Put new cluster in car, program new vin, set the mileage and then copy zcs/fa from ews-ike.

Total job time about 15 minutes.

    Hello Smokey

    Thanks for your reply

Is the pa soft the same as BMW Scanner 1,4?

I have read conflicting things as far as mileage correction is concerned with the E46 M35080 EEPROM and if in fact my cluster actually has this. At least from the outer view of the circuit board of the cluster i do not have the M35080 EEPROM I will have to remove the gauge needles to access the inner view of the board to see what is in there. Do all E46 clusters have this EEPROM that most on the web say that you need to use a external programmer to be able to correct the mileage?

A guy on another forum said he desoldered the M35080 EEPROM found on the inner side of the circuit board (he removed the gauge needles to gain access) from the defective cluster and soldered it onto the donor cluster and resulted that it was a plug and play situation where the original VIN/mileage was properly restored onto the donor cluster

So should i solder the EEPROM or program the donor cluster with PA soft?

    Pasoft is bmw scanner 1.4.

I am 99.9% sure the eeprom in this is a 93c66.

The motors in these are very easy to break so be very careful removing the needles if you want to swap the eeprom (I suggest watching some videos on youtube and practice on your broken cluster).

the needles are easy to remove on this, just twist them anticlockwise.

Really? What about during the reinstallation process to get them properly installed so the gauges work correctly and precisely? I have read in several BMW forums where people have to exert and enormous amount of force to get them off. There is a guy who suggests to use a flat prying tool or even a fork along with something to protect the gauge material and apply upward force in the center of each needle

twist and pull , no fork on this one. Mark positions before you pull them out and later put it back.

I think you are confusing E46 with E38/39.

I have been having migrane headaches with the bosch m35080 eeprom equipped replacement cluster

I noticed that bmw scanner has an ike listing and not all cluster part numbers are supported

If i source a motometer gauge cluster from a 1999-2000 E46 and it has the 93C56 eeprom will bmw scanner really be able to set vin/copy zcs and change the mileage? My car has just over 64K miles so do i need to configue mileage so that coincides exactly with the mileage registered on the light control module or LZS?

I saw an M5 cluster retrofit where the replacement cluster was a manual and the car was automatic. The person was able to code it to AT with bmw scanner

In my situation, would i be able to do all of the above with a MT motometer cluster from a 2000 E46 323ci with just over 124K miles

I would hate to buy another cluster and end up in the same situation as i am now

My car is a 2000 bmw e46 328ci with auto transmission

If the motometer replacement cluster sw/hw is different from original cluster on car would that also pose a problem?

The enclosed picture is if the original cluster that was installed and is dead

If indeed the bmw scanner can do all of the above i can get a motometer cluster from a manual 323ci e46 and then code it with bmw scanner?
