in case no update is done to the cas3 , by default the cas3 has a metalic crystal inside , while the cas3+ has the black crystal. easy to identify

CAS3 is easy with avdi via OBD - and safe.

Its the CAS3+ which Westville is right - simaservic1108 assume u can do this still via tm100 dump

CAS3+ is a firmware update which hardware can only possible to support after 2008 (or they'd do on older cars also).

So metalic crystal and mask (i forget which -its on this forum)

is only true CAS3+ once firmware has been updated by dealer. 2009 was cross over for support so Yes could be

Of course the hardware (as ass4 points out) must support it and we can see it from mask etc.

Have you anytool 1108 which can look at CAS version like AVDI ? Thats easier than initially removing CAS.

Hay I did a 2011 X5 and that was only CAS3. **** pain in the backside on others with AVDI 6 months ago

I'm buying the red rosfar clone. Paid alot of dosh for AVDI BMW so will have another crack. PS. AVDI BMW suppose to be updated but looks same ??

for cas3 and cas3+ the best on bench tool is red rosfar and any TP programmer that has bmw or use multi tool. easy job done in maximum 15 minutes. in case all key lost use the ecu dump with tango. never tried original avdi on it.
as for x6 if it has cas3 or cas3+ well from what i have seen in bmw its a bit confusing will it should be cas3+ u can as well find cas3 with old version. u can never be 100% sure which it has cas3 or cas3+ until u open it and see it. plus u can know it from the number of the cas on the label outside.
