Default How do you convert recordings...?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what software will convert recordings made onto a USB device with the TM 5400 Super into .avi or .mpg format. I'm sure I tried VLC, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic but they couldn't read the file on the USB device never mind convert it. It's been a while since I tried so I just thought I'd ask before I forgot again
Thanks for the help guys, and sorry if it's been posted before.

Thanks shaney. After all that, I recorded a bit of video and found out it is .ts format. I found a program which transcodes the video (didn't try WINavi, but thanks for the suggestion) to mpeg or DVD .vob PAL. (It also does NTSC and SECAM for our international members.)
The program I used is Tipard MPEG TS Converter, from
    Code:
    http://www.tipard.com/mpeg-ts-converter.html
and this is a free trial.
GFXworld is an interesting site too

Fergal - Is ProjectX the one you need to compile the executable first using Java? I downloaded that from SourceForge but when I checked the readme.txt , I couldn't be bothered finding the Java path. Go on! Call me lazy
As it turns out, with Tipard you can do HD as well. (Which would be good if I had the 6900 rather than the 5400. Hey ho...)
Maybe I'll try it though - ProjectX is free after all.
