Default Mercedes Slk R171 cluster not working

    Hi all

    Bit of an odd one..

2006 Slk was resprayed then put into an oven to dry overnight at 50c. In morning when ignition was turned on, the dash all lit up red then died. Now airbag & abs light is permanently on even when key is out of ignition. Nothing else on the cluster works, roof also stopped working. Star cannot communicate with IC. There is 12v going to cluster plug so I would say that cluster is at fault. Does anyone know what component(s) needs to be replaced when cluster goes like this pls.

    Thanks

It is difficult to answer your question. Have you checked with DAS or Xentry to see what fault codes you have in the car? If cluster is dead you will see "Lost communication with ICM". Start by reading the fault codes and then post results here.

Star cannot get comms with IC (I did say this in original post) so I suspect that the cluster is dead. Does anyone know which component is likely to be faulty ?

    Thanks

Any faults in the other units, like EIS, ECM, SRS and so on?
If the lights in the cluster are working this means it is not completely dead, maybe just its CAN communication. Can you try to connect the cluster on bench?

No other faults in system. Powered dash up on bench 12v- pin1 and 12v+ pin 4 and only the srs and abs lights light up, nothing else at all.

If a replacement cluster is required then which numbers must match? Only the Mercedes A........ number or others too?

    Thanks

Check in EPC which part numbers are compatible with the part number of your dash.
Our of curiosity - can you post the eeprom dump of the dead dash?

Yes I will read the eeprom tomorrow and post here. IIRC it's a 24c16 in that dash?

The eeprom looks normal, try putting this eeprom in your donor dash and hopefully it will work fine
