    Default Cant install hdd on zgemma box

    Hi I have a zgemma h2s box openatv 5.1. I've bought a seagate 500gb hdd, formatted it to fat32 but zgemma box is not seeing it when plugged in. Then I go to mount device option, nothing is listed.

    If your wanting to setup the Hard drive for recording, EPG and timeshift then the Hard drive needs to Initialised (Linux Formatted first) do this via the Zgemma;

    Set Up USB Hard drive for Recording/Time shift and EPG storage
    1. Menu-setup-system-storage devices-Initialisation, Select your drive and format it
    2. Menu-setup-system-storage devices-Ext3 to Ext4, Select your drive and change filesystem
    3. Reboot

    To check that your hard drive has auto mounted on reboot
    Menu-Information-devices

    Under Detected devices your should see your 500gb hard drive described as /media/hdd

    Try connecting the HDD to a PC and then run the free partition wizard to delete all partitions and then create an EXT4 partition. When done, try that in your ZGemma

    Just tried this thanks, but still not showing on initialise screen. I have an 8 gig usb stick which works fine on the box, but it won't recognise the 500gb hdd

    Then best guess would be the box isn't supplying enough power for the HDD. Try the other USB slot

    I take it the external drive is a 2.5" USB BUS Powered type but do you know the drives speed 5400rpm spin speed is the usual for recording type drives, but you can also get the faster 7200rpm which take a bit more juice so as above it may not be getting enough power.

    You could always try another power supply with the Zgemma or even use a powered USB HUB

    i take it that most issues happen when trying portable devices although i will mention prefare externally powered hdd to be safer.so the usb ports are still an issue on zgemma boxes but i do like the option of a powered usb hub to use.
