You can open the device and check the three DALC12 or the two ADG1406 chips on the pcb. If the device turns on but there is no communication with cars via OBD it is most likely one of those IC's.
Some time ago Lonsdor released an update that fried a lot of devices this way and then tried to prescribe the issues on bad cables but that is not true.

If indeed you have one of those chips burned then I am sorry to say but you will have a hard time with the repair.
The device softlocks itself when replacing components yourself so you will need to send it to someone with Lonsdor specific service software most likely in China, but the shipping cost combined with the 600USD update subscription and you might as well buy a brand new device for that. One that is from a more reputable company with hopefully better support. Considering Lonsdor did not release new functions for over 7 months now that is what I would do in your place.

Got mine in freshly a month ago and tried only several things. Today had a Polo Cross 2007 for which it did pull the pin but then failed to program the key with a 'security access failure'. Had to program it using another tool but using the pincode, which turned out to be just fine. Still curious how much it will add to the possibilities of the other bunch of tools available.

Passat 2010 also no show but that is not too strange. Autel failed as well so it is scheduled to do on the bench (customer just came by, no time for that on the fly)

    Hello,

Did you make some other test, or maybe try on real car to add a key with Lonsdor? Im thinking if it's good idea to start using this tool on FEMs or invest in more trustable tool in this process. I thought about Yanhua, seems solid and very easy to use.

I told everything in detail about my experience with FEM. I didn't dare to use it on a real car, since I have other BMW equipment.

Got a problem with a Range Rover Evoque today.

It's a 2017 and I have the JLR function active (at least, paid for it, never used it so far) and a special key available for the Lonsdor system so we could still do it)

Now the system reads the module nr and software version but after that comes with a message 'speed too slow' and it is recommended to check the OBD cable. This is not an issue and after several re-inserts and tries it's obvious a little research on the problem might be needed. Can't find any info on this situation. Did anyboday ran into it and solved it?

I am curious does this tool receive any updates anymore ?

On the official site update log the last update was over 9 month ago (http://en.lonsdor.com/html/updatelog)

Since they added the JLR functions from AVDI and Toyota 8A AKL from VVDI have there been any updates, or do they work on bugfixes ? Or is the tool dead as far as software development is concerned ?
