    Default MS45.0 DME

    Hello folks

I have a BMW X3 E83 3,0L 2004 with a DME MS45.0 WK93016 Index 02 that causes the car to shut down on idle after about 5-10 minutes.
Turn the key off/on and the car starts right upp again and runs for a couple of minutes then the same thing. Driving at the interstate gives the same symptoms as a faulty camshaft possitionsensor. I have all the "classic" error codes pointing at a broken DME and nothing on a faulty sensor. I think it's the correct assumption and that it after some minutes after the heat is build up in the circuits and the box it gets a read/write error causing the checksum to be wrong causing the DME to shut down. I have a feeling that it occurse more frequent with raising temp but can't provoke it to shut down believing that I can fix a donor and get the right read out from my original DME.

Anyhow - that was not my concern really, It's this:

MS45.0 WK93016 Index02 was placed in several 5 series E60 cars 2,0 L to 3,0L from 2003-2004 so I would get the hold of one pretty easy and my thought is that it's just a computer with some transistors for the injectors and so on so it doesn't matter what kind of car it comes from 520,525,530 or a X3 gasoline as long as it is WK93016 Index02 and as long as I don't plan to use both the EWS and the DME from the donor car not programming the DME because then I understand that it has to be exacly the right DME?

I plan to clone my faulty one to a better used one so all the code will be exchanged in the donor with my original code.

    Hi Guys

There have been many posts in regards to bmw ms45 ecus but i was wondering if somebody could just clarify if swapping the eeprom and flash from a faulty unit into a used pcm with identical part and index numbers would work? If not exactly what do i need to read and alter to over come matching ews to the replacement pcm. I have original avdi with full bmw but it dosnt seem to list ms45 with regards to isn reading etc?

    vehicle is a 2005 x3

Any help would be much appreciated

    thanks in advance

Sorry for late answer and I don't have an answer for you but my studies on the net makes me believe that it's not just to do it.

I managed to calculate a couple of my checksums (announced where and how by others on the net) and found em to be stored in both the flash and eeprom making me suspect that the cpu also is included some how.

Definetly not sure, only more of a feeling.

The advice that is given to me upon req. of virgin files for my DME is that it is easier to put the right ISN in the EWS and use the donor as is.

I clone ECU with FGTech then update firmware with ISTA/P. You can just flash new firmware with ISTA/P and see how it works. Supposedly, the issue is the processor writing bad blocks to the flash. Straight cloning will result in the same stalling, therefor cloning and updating is preferred.....but just updating software will generally work- but who knows for how long.

I would love to try but can't get in hold of neither an updated firmware or virgin files for 45.0

I have for the 45.1 but that one I don't wanna try with in my euro car. Need 45.0
