Trace the Can Lo and can hi from the pcb and trace power of the dash, then you can do it on the bench via diagnostic menu of your tool

you can trace the CAN line thru Can filter (se attached picture)

Oh that's very interesting. I did not want to buy such OBD2 tools, because of fear of destroying some ECUs in the cars. But if it's also possible to just connect the instrument, I have to think about that again.
Do you know if they all (dp4, smelecom, carprog, vvdi) have this function, or of which one do you know that? Or is it no special function, just startup instrument and connect to CAN Lines from instrument instead of OBD/Gateway pins?

Pinout of the tucson instrument is 16-, 39+, 40+, if 1 is top left.
    display shows mileage that way

Why are you afraid of destroying other ECU?, When the OBD tool accessing the Instrument cluster from OBD port, it is only loaded the Bootloader file to the RAM of a cluster and it will not harm other ECU connected from the OBD port.
The same when you accesing the Airbag module from the OBD port, it was only loaded Bootloader to the airbag Module the same to the other Module, so it is safe because when the Loader dosnt match to the Module to access, it will not connect and the tool will displayed cannot connect or cumminication error

By the way, any cluster that can access via diagnostic port can do on the bench, even the the car is not present, just look for its CAN line, K line or MBUS depending on year of car
