    Default Ford KA dashboard repair?

evening folks, i have a mk2 ford ka which appears to have a fault with the instrument cluster and appears to be a known common fault.

a couple of the warning lights are constantly on but very dim (not full brightness)

a google search throws up plenty results from companies who fix the cluster for this exact issue but i cant find any info on what causes it and how to repair it myself to save sending it away

does anyone know the cause/fix and willing to point me in the right direction please?

    thanks

could it really be that simply ha ha?

all the leds work at full brightness when they are supposed to be on, but a handful of the warning leds stay on very faintly so i was thinking its something on the board that needs changed

Yes, it can be so simply. They they can deteriorate due to voltage surges. Use multimeter. Check and u will see that not enough voltage on these problem leds. Also problem can be in stabilizer, resistors and even eeprom

ive been digging on similar issues on other cars (as i cant find anything specific to a ford ka) and it appears the fiat 500 and a few others with similar issue are caused by faulty leds, thatll give me something to look at tomorrow

turns out leds was at fault, i wasnt sure how to test for faulty leds as they all worked when they was given power, i just replaced the majority of the warning light leds until there was no more staying on

hopefully this info will help others

I know this is an old thread but i have the same problem, can you remember if you changed just the slightly glowing leds or was one of the other leds dragging the voltage down?
    Thanks

Same fault here. Two LED's glow when running but when I measure the LED voltage drop its 1.7v. Same as all the rest. Which LED's were used as replacement? I might just replace them all anyways.
