Default 2004 Mini Cooper with Broken ECU DME

    Hello everyone,

I broke a piece of my ecu and now the injectors wont fire. Since the circuit board looks like plastic I don't think I can repair it. I tried but it did not work.
I bough a used ECU and tried many things, but the car will not start because I can't sync the ECU to the EWS module. It failed using an Autel Elite, and insta P. I was able to code the vin but that was about it.
I now bought a kess v2 clone that will arrive tomorrow.
I am hoping I can dump the old ecu and write into the new one. If that does not work I would like to know if I have other options. For example can I make a dump and get the immo disabled ?

What ideas do you have to fix this issue ?

The car is a R50 with a ems2000 ecu with the flash memory AM29F400BB

    Thank you.

Kess clone will not help you...
    You write and see 29f400...

    Solder it to new unit...
    And all ok...
    Max. 3 min...
    And everything great...

Thank you. What tool should I get to perform this without soldering to the new unit. The board is just a film. I can remove the memory but I can't place it back.
Would kess work if it was the real version ? On the site it says it supports this model via obd but it does not go into details.

    Hello,
You can only read and write the ECU in boot mode.
The Galletto device is able to do this in boot mode.

Thank you, but right now I am not able to find Galletto on ebay or amazon in the us. Everything seems to take weeks to get here. Is it possible to do boot mode via obd or will I have to solder to the right pin and do it on the bench ?
I was able to get a dump using kess, but I am not sure if it is good or not. I understand that the writing part does not work unless it is in boot mode.
I tried to look for the diagram in Kess and did find. I never used it before.
Would an Immo off modification work in my case ?

ioterminal read and write full without opening...
but this is even ten times more expensive then a galletto clone...
as I wrote, with kess youŽll do nothing...

and if a immo off solution exist...
    but I donŽt think so...
then youŽll need again full flash...

but why you just donŽt search for someone who has a soldering iron...
    even a 10 € tool will help...

    Figani,

    Thank you for responding.
I am not able to find a galletto clone ready to be delivered. If that is my last option I will buy it and wait.
I have a soldering iron, but this ecu is made on a flexible circuit that I don't think I can solder it back. Removal is ok but the re install seems difficult.
Here is a picture. I am afraid that if I go the solder route I will be left with 2 broken ecus.

Quick update. Found one seller on ebay selling FGTech Galletto 4 Master V54 BDM-OBD. I bought it and it should get to me in 2 weeks.
What is kess good for if you can't write back or some systems do not have protect memory spaces ?

If you try to desolder and solder again for this ECU you will need Pre Heating unit. Air blow type or IR type

Thanks guys. I will try to remember and update this thread with the results. Once I get it working I will try to de solder, read, and solder the flash memory again on the broken one.

I deal with used cars and sometimes modules brake. I have now a few tools and a starting point on how to try to fix them.

Immo off or virgin are both no problem with this ECU (off coarse with full flash).

MPPS v18 is a cheaper alternative that can do boot mode on the ems2000.

I got the Galletto and mpps delivered today. I was not able to get the galletto to run on win10. I will do some research on that.
I thought that mpps was able to do boot mode via obd. I think I miss understood. I made a new image and wrote it to the used ecm but it was not able to write everything since the car would not start and complain about the immobilizer.
I will look for some tutorials to understand better how it works.
I also compared the files from mpps and kess and mpps seemed to have mode values while kess had more ff entries. Not even sure that kess did a full read now.
This is very exciting but complicated. I have been trying for a while but the car still not running

MPPS v18 can do boot mode, but off coarse you need to connect the boot pin. Otherwise connections are identical to OBD. Look under Generic (not MINI) and find DMEEMS2K

Hi guys. Thank you very much for helping me. Today I was able to turn the car on. Unfortunately if I disconnect the battery it loses the sync with the ews module and wont turn on. I believe I will need to make an image that is synched and write it again in boot mode but in case I am wrong let me know.

Here are the steps that worked.
I used mpps and made an image via obd2. tomvleeuwen told me about the generic portion and I did the writing using that.
I found the pin out and boot pin in the thread below.
